This Week's Question:
Your child wants to quit organized sports in order to spend more time skate boarding. What do you do?

Response:
I would let him do it if it was a SERIOUS decision. Make sure that he is using skate boarding as exercise. Ensure his safety (protective gear). Make sure he is developing skill and not just "hanging out." Make sure there are no bad influences (drugs, alcohol). Stay with him to watch his practices, just as I do with his other practices (soccer, speedskating), even though it may not be perceived as cool.
